Across land once sea, darkness emerges from wet soil. Living water shines silver in rose light.

I search for evidence in the time-landscape.

I seek departed companions in the mysteries of stones, mud, and wind.

In these photographs stone is impermanent, clothes disembodied, and land is indistinguishable from atmosphere. This project began as a search for someone who lived four hundred years ago. Inspired by the life of independent thinker and lens grinder, Baruch Spinoza, I visited the places he lived. Soon I discovered that the project’s true location was between these mapped points—in the Dutch polder land that retained the memory of the ocean and in the landscape of time where departed companion remain mysterious.
